| Loretta Washington Storytelling Multipurpose Workshops Author/Writer/Speaker Hi! Thank you for visiting my website. Welcome to the wonderful world of storytelling. But, don't stop here, you must view the rest of the site. If you see a program, workshop or presentation that you like or have a question about anything, contact me. Be sure to visit again in the upcoming months, you don’t want to miss the new and exciting things that will be added with my future up-dates. A Little Bit About Me I have been on my storytelling journey for fifteen years and during that time I have always had a story to tell. Now I know that I was destined to travel down this storytelling path, for that reason the future excites me.
I perform for and conduct multipurpose workshops for schools, festivals, libraries, fairs, retreats, summer camps and other private and public organizations. And, when possible I am also willing to work with you to tailor a program or workshop around your needs.
Sometimes, I stop and just say WOW. Because of storytelling I get to share my gift with everyone I come in contact with. I had no idea many years ago that storytelling would evolve into such an exciting journey for me. I love what I do, it drives me to always try to give my very best Check out my About Me page Why I Tell Stories When I walked into my first storytelling workshop I knew that I wanted to become a storyteller. I said to myself “this is it, I want to be a storyteller”.
When I told my first story I knew that I had made the right decision. My first story came by way of my imagination. While visiting my sister, Patricknella in Texas, I shared this story with several of our friends. As the story unfolded they all sat there in their seats in this trance like state. When I finished I knew that the feeling I felt the first night of that storytelling workshop was real.
My storytelling journey started that day and it continues to this day. It is forever evolving and I love the changes that are always occurring. I like using voices, gestures, animations and props in my stories. I often get asked “how did you do that voice”? And, I always answer "it’s done with lots of practice and much love for what I do". I enjoy seeing a child's face light up or have as adult tell me how they were taken back in time thru my stories. It's an awesome feeling. Check out my Programs page Why I Do Workshops My first workshop was called “Storytelling for the Beginner”. Something happened during that first workshop I realized I enjoyed it as much as the participants did.
From my first workshop I knew that I had been bitten by the “workshop bug”. I love sharing what I have learned thru the years, be it with the novice who wants to learn how to tell a story or with the more season teller who just wants a new perspective to a story.
I have presented over 800 workshops. They include different levels of storytelling, beginner puppetry and a variety of other related workshops for children and adults. The “workshop bug” is still growing and I’m having fun trying to keep up with it. I have never presented a workshop where I didn't leave, feeling that I had helped someone. Check out my Workshops page Why I Do Presentations My first keynote presentation came by way of a story that I had written about my great grandmother. I was asked to address a group of teachers and other interested adults at a Catholic School Conference. The conference leaders wanted someone to speak on “How to Get Started Writing Your Personal Stories”. After this presentation someone in the group gave my business card to someone else and that’s how I got started.
I have fun with my presentations which are designed to go beyond entertainment, to encouraging and motivating. My ultimate goal is to “plant a seed that will inspire”.
So, whenever I'm called to do a presentation, I get excited because it gives me another outlet to share what I enjoy doing. I get the opportunity to share with my audience some of the things that I have learned through the years. And, of course I always create an opportunity to add a story or two. Check out my Presentations page My Personal Commitment I love what I do, I'm committed to what I do, and I have a passion for what I do. This commitment and passion that drives me, makes me always strive to do my very best when I perform. When I look back at the end of the day I want to know that I have brought a little joy into the lives of those that I touched.
